Dona, I just e-chatted with someone today who's an aspiring writer who has been feeling totally crushed by her lack of forward momentum on her novel. Hey, a Little guilt may help push us to action, but a lot of it has the opposite effect, I'm thinking. But you're welcome!

Ouch. Talk about hitting me where it hurts. But you're absolutely right. Thanks for reinforcing what I've been telling myself over the past couple of weeks. It's good to know I'm not alone. :).

Thank you Kay I wanted to hear this, that it is my responsibility to know when the work is complete even though I do accept constructive criticism from those that I trust to tell me the truth. i have re-thought and re-thought ideas on paper to dismiss them, and then at times later come back and revisit. Writing is no game of cat of mouse, it's serious business and we all should see it at that, but not to serious that we are not open for revisions. Thank you once again. I enjoy reading your post. Augie Hicks

Kay thank you once again for this post. I have taken academia creative writing classes for years, but the most valuable lessons I have learned in writing were from two editors, who advised me to write from the heart, and revise, revisit, revise, reconstruct, revise, revisit and let go (maybe not in that order all the time). Thank you again. augie hicks

Kay, thank you for this article. It makes a lot of sense. Without knowing ones genre how can you promote your writing? Thanks again Augie Hicks

A Thousand Perfect Things is a fantasy novel about a young woman in Victorian England who undertakes a scientific expedition to India, a land of magic on the verge of revolution from the British Raj. Definitely a departure for me. There will be a few more fantasies of this sort before I return to science fiction.

Hi! Huge fan of your novels; you've become a progressively better author over the years, and you've set the bar pretty high for yourself now if you want to top "The Entire and the Rose", it was superb!
Excited to hear the title of your next novel :)
Can you reveal anything at all regarding its plot? Or maybe you already have somewhere and I just haven't found it?

Sincerely,
Jan-Erik L.

Well stated Kay. I can hear a subtext in your message: Don't envy those with power and position. Overcome them through personal excellence, that's the thing their money and fame can't buy!
